- Some days I’m so bloated I would think I’m pregnant.
- I don’t have the energy to be intimate with my spouse anymore, or just lack desire all together.
- Even though I’m exhausted, I have trouble sleeping.
- I’m eating right and exercising, but the weight just keeps creeping up.
- I poop once every couple days.
- I’m no longer emotionally present with my children or spouse.
- Once 5PM Friday rolls around, I feel like I was run over by a bulldozer.
If any of the above resonate with you, then you need to start taking your restoration more seriously. If you’re not suffering from Chronic Fatigue, you’re on the cusp, and it’s a place you don’t want to be. Trust me.
With Heather, it started out as some allergies, then some fatigue, then lack of motivation to workout, followed by some inflammation. Eventually, it hit her like a ton of bricks; she had to leave her job because she didn’t have the energy to walk to her car.
If her doctors truly understood how the human body works, she would have never progressed to this point, and we wouldn’t have had to spend tens of thousands of dollars cleaning up their errors before her road to recovery. Unfortunately, too many wait until they’re so far down the rabbit hole before they start taking it seriously, that it costs them significantly more than it should.
Sadly, the medical system is exacerbating the problem. I can’t tell you how many women come to us after seeing dozens of doctors, both conventional as well as “natural”. They’re told by their doctors, “Well, you’re just getting older,” or “You need to exercise more and eat less,” or “Here, just take these medications.” Recently, we spoke with a woman whose doctor told her that she was lying about what she’d been eating, and that it’s scientifically impossible for her to not lose weight on the diet he’d given her. Imagine how that made her feel.
If you take nothing else away from this article, make sure you take this, if you’re always tired, it’s not because you’re approaching 40 or 50, it’s not because you’re deficient in thyroid medication, and it’s surely not in your head.
It’s because you’re in a form of fatigue. It’s because you’re ill internally. And, if you don’t begin to take it seriously and start investing in the right paths to correct it, it’s going to get worse.
There are basically three phases of adrenal dysfunction. Most of start out in the “normal” range, or close to homeostasis, where everything’s working as it’s supposed to. You’re dealing with stress well, and you’re body is responding well.
As that stress becomes acute, you enter phase I, or the resistance phase. At this point, your adrenal glands are doing what they’re supposed to, elevating your cortisol output to properly deal with the stress. That stress can come in many forms, by the way, mental/emotional, physical (exercise, injury), chemical (processed food, toxic cosmetics, pollution, etc.) and biochemical (internal stressors like poor detoxification, intestinal infections, food sensitivities, etc.). Because your adrenal glands are still functioning properly, even though there’s stress, you’re dealing with it well enough.
You then get to a point where the stress becomes chronic and your adrenal glands cannot produce enough cortisol to combat the amount of stress you’re under, now you enter phase II. This is where symptoms appear, like poor sleep, joint pain, digestive issues, minor fatigue, etc. These are all warning signs of what’s around the corner, but unfortunately, because of what’s drilled into our minds by the medical system and the media, we chalk it up as a normal part of aging, and ignore those signs.
Eventually, if it’s not dealt with, you then enter phase III, where you begin to self-medicate. You’re taking Advil for your migraines and joint pain, chugging coffee to get your behind out of bed in the morning, digestive aids for your bloated belly, hormones because you stopped having your period, etc.
This process can take many years, or it can take months. It’s not uncommon to be sitting in that phase I for 10 years, and go from phase I to deep into phase III in just months, or even weeks. The more you ignore the warning signs, the quicker and deeper you digress. Another human body truth.
There is no phase IV, so at this point, you have two choices. First, you can continue to ignore the true problem and continue taking medications to mask your symptoms, until you digress so much that cells begin to deteriorate, then organs become compromised, then bodily systems begin to fail, and you enter that Chronic Fatigue state, eventually followed by death. Sounds drastic, yes, but it’s the human body truth, which is not something you’ve yet to be told.
Or, you can fire your doctor and invest in a form of natural healer that can uncover the root causes of your health issues and start the restoration process. However, the longer you wait, the more costly that restoration will be, not only in money, but in time and energy as well. So maybe that money you’re about to spend on that trip to Europe or Hawaii can be reallocated to rebuild your health, so that you can truly enjoy your eventual trip.
The Adrenals, your hub to health
Good health starts and ends with the adrenal glands. Picture the wheel of a bicycle. The axis, or center of that wheel, represents your adrenal glands and your steroid hormone balance. From that axis there are seven spokes, each representing a different function of the body.
One spoke represents detoxification capacity. This is where your body deals with the onslaught of toxins that cause oxidation of tissues, like heavy metals, chemical (both external as well as internal bi-products), etc. Another spoke represents fat and protein metabolism. This affects protein synthesis, mucosal surface integrity (your first line of immune defense) and weight and fat distribution.
The third spoke represents endocrine function. This is responsible for ovarian hormone levels, pancreas function (insulin and digestive enzyme production) and thyroid function. The fourth represents neural tissue health (memory & learning, mood, quality of sleep). Another spoke represents musculoskeletal health (bone turnover, muscle & connective tissue integrity).
The sixth represents carbohydrate metabolism (cellular energy & glucose levels), and lastly eicosanoid modulation (inflammation & immune regulation).
When the adrenal glands are taxed, it affects each spoke on that wheel, which is why every system can be impacted if not addressed.
What fatigue is communicating to you
When you’re in a constant state of fatigue, your body is communicating more to you than just, “you need some rest.” Sure, rest is vital, but it’s communicating that you’re in a very ill state. Thankfully, your body is much smarter than you are (no disrespect intended). Your body has an astronomical number of defense mechanisms it’s equipped with, fatigue being one.
See, when you’re in or approaching that chronic fatigue state, your body’s primary goal is to keep you alive. It doesn’t care that you want to lose that 5, 10, 20 or even 100 pounds. It doesn’t care that you want to spend your Friday night at happy hour with your co-workers. It doesn’t care about your social life. All it’s concerned with is keeping you alive.
As a defense, your body is going to take every bit of energy from you to repair these seven spokes, as well as their axis. This is why you don’t have the motivation to exercise, or go out with your friends. If you don’t start listening to your body, and keep drawing on that energy it so vitally needs, it’s going to push you further into that chronic fatigue state, making you feel like you just went 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.
Why your doctor putting you on meds isn’t the answer
If you’re one of the many who think that going to the doctor and having him/her prescribe medications is the answer to your health problems, then I’m sorry to say, you’re sadly mistaken. Your doctor may actually be making your situation even worse. (This is in no way a recommendation to stop taking your prescribed medication. If you plan to stop taking your meds, you should consult with your doctor first, or at least make him/her aware of your decision).
Medications do have their place. If you’re thyroid hormone levels are extremely low, and you have severe thyroid symptoms that are interfering with your ability to function, then supplementing with a prescription thyroid medication may help you to feel better for a period of time, allowing you a window to focus on the true problems. If you suffer from severe insomnia, then taking a sleeping med, though not ideal, may allow you to at least get a few hours of sleep. Sleep is when your body does the majority of its healing, so sleep meds may allow for that.
A problem we see all too often is, because people begin feeling a little better while taking their medications, they think the healing is done. It’s not.
Medications are not addressing the root cause, or the reason your thyroid isn’t properly functioning in the first place. If you’re not addressing it at the root, that issue is going to cascade into other issues, causing further malfunctions, and further dis-ease.
The medical system is doing a huge disservice telling you that you need to be on a medication for the rest of your life. There are circumstances where someone might need a lifetime of medication, but those circumstances are the rarity, not the norm.
Why restoration needs to be #1 on your priority list
In our society, we focus way too much on “things”, and not enough on what really matters, our health and livelihood. We have no problem accruing loads of debt taking on an enormous car payment we don’t need, or loading our credit cards with vacations, televisions, expensive dinners and other meaningless garbage. But ask those same people to invest in their health, and they look at you like you’re nuts, with replies like, “I can’t afford it,” or “I just paid off my credit card and don’t want to add anymore debt.”
I guarantee that if you ask any one of our e3 energy Evolved private members, all of whom had been put through the ringer by the medical system which allowed their health issues to have huge negative impacts on their lives and relationships, if it was worth the investment, they’d all say, “Yes, ten times over,” followed by “I just wish I hadn’t waited so long,” or “I just wish I’d found you sooner.”
The one thing they all have in common is they put “life” on the top of their priority list. The fact is your life is all you have. Without it, you have nothing. And if you don’t start taking it more seriously, it’s not going to be there for you when you need it.
If you’re in a constant state of fatigue, and you too don’t put your restoration at the top of your priority list, it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when that dis-ease will take you over or worse cascade into another dis-ease process internally, affecting more than just yourself, but your relationships, your family, your job and your finances.
