One of the greatest gifts of human body learning we received from our years of work to correct my fatigue & Hashimoto’s Disease naturally & drug-free (not even synthroid) through natural energy creation strategies, was a greater understanding of the human body and the realization that being fit simply does not equate to being well.
For years my husband and I were fit. We both did competitive bodybuilding prior to my auto immune illness, and were involved in the fitness industry and consistently committed to our personal fitness both from our late teens. And yet I still became extremely ill as a result of stress, lack of rest and recovery, and environmental toxins despite my undeniable fitness commitment, and my internal imbalances had been developing long before we ever saw them on the outside of my body through external symptoms.
I was competing in the sport of figure before I experienced dis-ease in my body with my adrenal fatigue & Hashimoto’s, to a level that made me leave my fitness behind for the first time in my life for a year and a half of strict natural energy recovery work & restoration. The first time I was I was able to return to any form of movement it was simply light walking per day, forget hitting weights hard in a gym.
Don’t make the assumption that a person is well internally just because the outside of their body is fit. A person that creates fitness is not necessarily a person that creates wellness.
They are not one in the same where the human body is concerned. Someone whose fit can very well still have health imbalances both internally and externally. But a body that is truly well exists in homeostasis: complete balance with no health disruption at all, not even allergies, yeast infections, acne, or headaches.
Wellness that leads to fitness is so much more than just showing up at the gym everyday or “working off what I ate this weekend”. Wellness & “health” is a mindset, a state of being, a place of personal acceptance, a lifestyle choice that considers your environment, what you take in & do to your mind & body at all times, how you use both of them, how you nurture & grow them over your lifespan. There is a huge gaping difference between these two lifestyles, and each outcome.
When we nurture our internal health through our actions & lifestyle, and make our way outwards and then a fit lean healthy body is the outcome of those actions, but you will never reach internal wellness simply from taking the actions that produce a fit body. Why do you think it is so many committed to their fitness struggle still to lose weight? It’s because the bio-individual body has many integrated factors that affect its ability to function metabolically and be well. You cannot disconnect them. The body is an integrated unit.
Accept that your personal health is a transformative journey that should change and play out over your entire lifespan.
During that journey, evolve from becoming a “fitness person” to striving to becoming a “wellness person who engages in fitness as 1 small part of a comprehensive natural energy strategy that factors in the unique needs of your personal mind, body & spirit.”
What would be some differences in these two approaches? Share your thoughts below.
